Boy, what a weekend!
I think I'll just stick to Desert Racing and GP's. I did not see 1 person
come in (even after the first "C" loop) that acted like they had a good
time. Arizona desert is one tough cookie. ALL of their trails are narrow
single-track with virtually no room for passing. The trails are grooves
about 6 - 8 inches deep and about the same width, pounded into rock by years
of follow-the-leader. If you get off trail, as in a Gil Ashdown pass, you're
going to pick needles out of every part of your body. Arizona washes are
just wide, rocky, creek beds. There are no whoops, because the ground is too
hard to be built up into them. I talked to a few D37 enduro boys (actually
they were all super seniors and magnums) and they said that the C loop was
equal to, or tougher than a D37 A loop.
Eric slept like a baby on the way home. He was genuinely whupped and
resembled a pin cushion. I guess he figured out that those saguaro cactuses
don't move much when you hit them at speed. I wonder if that cactus has a
headache today?
Most of the people were quite friendly, and most were from the East Coast or
the South.
Enduro riders are psycho robots.
Thank God for the organized effort of the D37 clubs. Every Arizona Trail
Rider member that I talked to throughout the day either had no idea what was
going on or just made up answers to your questions. I just rode around with
my GPS and figured things out for myself.
All in all, it was fun. But I'll stick to D37.
Talk to ya soon.
